About four weeks ago, the Arizona Cardinals defeated the Seattle Seahawks in one of the most absurd games of the 2020 season so far. Arizona pulled out a 37-34 overtime victory that featured almost 1,100 yards of total offense, five turnovers, a ten-point comeback in the final three minutes of regulation, and four possessions in the ten-minute extra period.
It was truly a bizarre game, one that was highlighted by D.K. Metcalf running down Budda Baker on an interception return that otherwise would have gone for a touchdown. Arizona tied the game with a field goal as time expired before missing a field goal in overtime. Then the Cardinals picked off Russell Wilson with a minute remaining in OT and scrambled to get in position for the winning kick with 20 seconds left in the extra stanza.
Was it a pretty game? Absolutely not. But it was hilarious for fans of other teams, and it has sent the Seahawks sliding. Seattle came into that game at 5-0 and are now 6-3 and in third place in the NFC West behind Arizona and the Los Angeles Rams.
Both of these avian-themed teams will look to take a bit of a hold over the division in the rematch tonight on Thursday Night Football. Tune in this evening for what promises to be a crazy game in Seattle at a stadium that was just officially renamed on Thursday afternoon. CenturyLink Field is no more, replaced by the name “Lumen Field” to acknowledge the corporate sponsor’s new identity.
