It’s all systems go for Davante Adams this weekend.
The Green Bay Packers’ star wide receiver saw his practice time limited this week as the team prepares to play the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, but there is no concern from the team about him missing the upcoming game. On Friday, the Packers did not assign him an injury status on the final injury report, all but assuring that he will suit up and play this weekend.
Adams suffered an ankle injury in the second half of last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, though he was able to return to the game and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. His status comes as a bit of a pleasant surprise, given that he was limited in Wednesday and Friday’s practices and did not participate on Thursday. However, it appears that the Packers were keeping his workload light as a precaution, and even head coach Matt LaFleur said on Friday that Adams “should be good to go.”
On the other side of the offense, wide receiver Allen Lazard came off injured reserve this week following a lengthy layoff due to surgery on a core muscle. Lazard’s status is less certain for Sunday, as he was designated as questionable on Friday’s injury report. LaFleur expressed his hope that Lazard will suit up for the first time since week 3, but said that his status is “something we’ll figure out on Sunday.”
The one player ruled out on the Packers’ injury report is an individual who has been fairly important to the overall scheme of the team’s offense, despite rarely touching the ball. That would be running back Tyler Ervin, who will miss his third game this season due to a wrist injury.
On defense, the Packers should be largely back at full strength. The team’s starting cornerbacks are ready to go: Jaire Alexander has cleared the concussion protocol and Kevin King was a full participant all week in practice. That will relegate Josh Jackson and Ka’Dar Hollman back to reserve roles, though Hollman joins safety Will Redmond as being questionable for Sunday.
For the Colts, the outlook is not quite as rosy. Starting defensive end and team sack leader Denico Autry went on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday, and his expected replacement, Kemoko Turay, is questionable after his recent return from the PUP list. Right tackle Braden Smith is also questionable, as he missed practice on Friday with a broken bone in his hand.
Tune in 90 minutes before game time on Sunday to see which players will be on the inactive lists for both teams.
