The Green Bay Packers’ injury report is a brief one for their week 14 game against the Detroit Lions, but more important than the short length of the report is the fact that the players on it are almost exclusively reserves. The same cannot be said for the Lions, who ruled a trio of starters out for Sunday’s game, from a wide receiver who has not played in over a month to one of the team’s top offensive linemen, who was just hurt last Sunday.
On the Green Bay side, two players are officially out for this week’s game: tight end Jace Sternberger and guard Simon Stepaniak. Sternberger suffered a concussion on Sunday — his second as a pro, having taken a big hit in training camp last year and missing a few weeks — and he has not practiced at all this week. Stepaniak, meanwhile, just returned to the active roster from the Non-Football Injury list; he has been rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered last December while preparing for Indiana’s bowl game, and will remain out as he continues to work his way back to full strength.
The Packers also have a trio of players listed as questionable for Sunday. The biggest name there is safety Darnell Savage, who has recorded three interceptions in the last two games. Savage popped up on Friday’s injury report with a groin injury that had him limited in practice, so his status will be important to monitor on Sunday afternoon, particularly with the team already seeing Raven Greene go on injured reserve this week. The other two players with quesitionable tags are wideouts Equanimeous St. Brown, who has progressed through the concussion protocol more quickly than Sternberger this week, and Malik Taylor, who had a hamstring injury pop up in Thursday’s practice.
Detroit, meanwhile, has ruled wide receiver Kenny Golladay, right tackle Tyrell Crosby, and cornerback Jeff Okudah all out for the upcoming game. Golladay will miss his sixth straight game with a hip issue, while Okudah’s groin is sidelining him for the third game in a row. Crosby, meanwhile, was injured in the Lions’ week 13 win over the Chicago Bears. Matt Nelson, a second-year undrafted player from Iowa, will likely start at right tackle in Crosby’s place.
The Lions also have another six players listed as questionable, including QB Matthew Stafford (right thumb), running back De’Andre Swift (illness), and defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand (groin).
