College Football 2020-2021 Bowl Schedule & Open Discussion Thread

Somehow, college football’s bowl season got underway just two days after the conclusion of the regular season. This year’s bowl schedule features 29 games, a low in recent years due to the coronavirus pandemic but still a huge number. With conference commitments and canceled games playing a major role this fall, there will be a number of sub-.500 teams participating in the postseason.

However, the top four teams that have been invited to the College Football Playoff are the bluest of the blue-blood programs once again. Alabama is the #1 seed this year, marking their sixth overall appearance in the seven years of the playoff and their fourth time as the top seed. #2 seed Clemson returns for the sixth straight year, only missing the playoff in its first iteration after the 2014 season, while Ohio State appears for the fourth time and Notre Dame for the second.

This year’s 2-3 game at the Sugar Bowl is a repeat of one of last year’s semifinal matchups, when Clemson edged out Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. The Tigers would go on to lose to LSU in the championship game, giving the #1 overall seed the championship for the first time in the playoff’s six years.

Of course, leading up to the semifinals on New Year’s Day and the championship game ten days later, there are plenty of other games to watch — some exciting and some, well, less so. For Wisconsin Badgers fans, the Cardinal and White will take on Wake Forest in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte on December 30th.
