This week, instead of a Thursday Night Football game, NFL fans are getting a game on the afternoon of Christmas Day. This is one of the first Friday games in several years, and it completes the NFL’s sweep of playing at least one game on every day of the week during the 2020 season.
Today’s game features a rivalry between two NFC teams with some seriously bad blood against one another. The Minnesota Vikings need two wins and some significant help to find a path into the postseason as the conference’s seventh and final seed. Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints can clinch the NFC South with a victory, which they will need to preserve any viable hope at jumping the Packers to land the top spot in the NFC playoffs.
These teams have had several memorable playoff meetings in the past several years. The Vikings have come out on top in each of the past two postseason meetings, upsetting the Saints in last year’s Wild Card round and beating New Orleans with the so-called Minneapolis Miracle two years earlier in the Divisional playoffs. These teams also met in the 2009 NFC Championship, when the Saints advanced to their only Super Bowl with a 31-28 victory in a game made famous for the bounty scandal that emerged afterwards.
If you’re watching today’s game, please join us here as we follow along. And regardless of whether you’re watching or not, we wish a Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it and a happy holiday season to all!
