APC Week 13 NFL Picks: Will Packers win another game by two possessions?

Our Magic 8-Ball says “signs point to yes.”

An upset at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles? Acme Packing Company does not see that in store for the Green Bay Packers this week.

The Packers are one of a whopping eight teams that are favored by more than a touchdown in week 13, a sign that there are few truly compelling matchups across the NFL this week. But although Green Bay currently comes in as an 8.5-point favorite against Philadelphia, our writers unanimously see the Packers winning outright and for the most part we expect them to do so by more than that margin.

This year, the Packers are 7-4 against the spread, failing to cover in only one of their eight outright wins: the 24-20 victory over Jacksonville when the team entered as two-touchdown favorites. While the 2019 team won eight of its regular-season games by eight points or fewer, the 2020 squad is more consistently dominant with six of the eight wins coming by multiple possessions. If that happens again this week, that’s a cover, and most of us at APC expect that to happen.

The NFC North does have one divisional matchup this week, as a team that fired its coach already — the Detroit Lions — travels to visit a Chicago Bears team that could be on the verge of doing the same. We’re split on that game this week, with about half of our writers on both sides of that game straight up and against the spread, where the Bears are three-point favorites.

Check out our picks below, and remember that these are for entertainment purposes only.
