The Green Bay Packers suffered a wave of injuries in Sunday’s victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. The team placed three players on injured reserve on Wednesday, shutting down safety Raven Greene, return man Tyler Ervin, and defensive tackle Billy Winn for at least the next three weeks.
With those three players going on IR, they were not listed on Wednesday’s injury report as the Packers begin preparations for Sunday’s game at Ford Field against the Detroit Lions. However, two other players who were injured against the Eagles missed today’s practice, with both landing in the concussion protocol.
First up is wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, who has been coming on of late after dealing with a knee injury that limited him through the first half of the 2020 season. St. Brown played just a handful of snaps on Sunday before he was evidently concussed. Though St. Brown has played the role of the fourth wide receiver in recent weeks following Allen Lazard’s return, he has recorded a few notable receptions, including a few key third-down conversions.
The other player who sat out on Wednesday is tight end Jace Sternberger, who played just three snaps before leaving Sunday’s game. Sternberger has been relegated to a situational H-back role thanks to the emergence of Robert Tonyan as the Packers’ primary “move” tight end, but he has also come up with the occasional big reception recently. Green Bay was fortunate to have promoted practice squad tight end Dominique Dafney last weekend, and he saw a few snaps in relief of Sternberger.
Both players’ statuses are in doubt for Sunday, though they should still have a few days to work their ways through the concussion protocol. Outside of those two, the rest of the players on the Packers’ active roster participated in some capacity. Although the team listed nine players as limited on the participation report, all have been dealing with nagging injuries in recent weeks and have been consistently limited early in the week before suiting up on Sundays. Expect the same this week from the likes of Kevin King, Allen Lazard, Lucas Patrick, and company.
On the other sideline, the Detroit Lions saw three key players miss Wednesday’s practice. Wide receiver Kenny Golladay remains sidelined, as he has not played since week eight due to a hip injury. Rookie cornerback Jeff Okudah, who had a rough day against Davante Adams in these two teams’ first meeting back in week two, likewise was not participating due to a groin injury; he has not played in either of the Lions’ past two games. Finally, right tackle Tyrell Crosby looks like he could miss Sunday’s game with an ankle injury that he suffered early in last Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.
Here’s the Packers’ full injury report for Wednesday.
