The Green Bay Packers finally have a schedule for the 2020 football season. And if it happens as planned, it seems to set up well for the team to get some good home-field advantage down the stretch in the upcoming season.
As it stands now, the Packers’ 2020 campaign is heavily back+loaded with home games in November and December. Green Bay has three home games in each of those two months, welcoming in a trio of warmer-weather teams — the Jaguars, Panthers, and Titans — from week 10 onward.
The Packers will open up with a pair of divisional games, first playing in Minnesota on opening weekend followed by a home game against the Detroit Lions. As for their oldest rivals, Green Bay will play the Chicago Bears in a pair of premier matchups late in the season, first at Lambeau Field on Sunday Night Football the week of Thanksgiving, then again in Chicago in week 17 to close the season.
Interestingly, the Packers did not get a road game in week four as they asked for. Instead, the team will host the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football, playing a second game at Lambeau Field in three days. The franchise requested a road game that week due to the Wisconsin-Notre Dame college football game scheduled for Saturday, October 3 at Lambeau Field.
Green Bay’s NFC Championship Game rematch with the San Francisco 49ers will take place on Thursday night of week nine. That will make for a lengthy road trip on short rest, which the Packers will surely be unhappy about, though the mini-bye following that game may come in handy.
Of course, time will tell whether the NFL is actually able to begin its season on schedule. The COVID-19 pandemic still rages on, and questions about the start of the season will likely linger well into the summer, potentially into August when training camps are scheduled to begin. Keep in mind that this is a normal 16-game schedule, which will only be followed if things go well in the coming weeks and months.
Here are the complete schedules for the regular season and preseason that were released on Thursday evening.
