Just a few years ago, Green Bay Packers fans were calling for him to be released in training camp. Davante Adams had gone through a case of the drops and some injuries in his second season, which ended with a disappointing 50 receptions for 483 yards and just one touchdown. Calls for Jeff Janis and Jared Abbrederis to take prominent roles in the Packers offense ahead of Adams were audible from the fan base as Adams had not yet fully grasped his potential.

Since then, Adams — the last wide receiver the Packers drafted on days one or two of the NFL Draft — has never caught fewer than 74 passes in a season. He has developed into Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target and is one of the very best, if not the best, route-runners in the sport.

But his most recent stretch of games, capped off by his 14-catch, 156-yard, two-touchdown performance in week one, suggests that he is on an entirely new stratosphere. In today’s curds, we focus on Adams the NFL superstar, a player who is on a truly historic pace recently.

After 17 targets in week one, the Rodgers-to-Adams connection is a strong one and should be prolific all season long. Adams doesn't have the same productivity on broken plays that Nelson did, but everything else is right on par.

Packers: Davante Adams’ numbers over the last 6 games are ridiculous | Packers Wire
Including the two playoff games in January, Adams has 766 yards and six scores in the past six games -- a 2,000-yard pace over a 16-game season. And consider that the first five contests in that six-game stretch came with his toe still at only "70 percent."

One of the more impressive throws and catches between this connection on Sunday was Rodgers' 40-yard rainbow to Adams up the left sideline on first and 20, which capped off his receiving day. That led to the Packers' final touchdown of the game to push them over the 40-point mark.

Matt LaFleur's scheme challenged a young Vikings defense, which had no answers for the myriad of tight ends that the Packers put on the field -- the team seemed to go heavy with 12 or 22 personnel on about half of their offensive snaps on Sunday.

The Packers were reasonably pass-heavy on first downs in the first half, but the Seahawks might finally be learning to use Russell Wilson's gifts to their full potential.
