Packers sign WR Caleb Scott to practice squad

Scott has yet to play in an NFL game, but offers a good combination of size and speed.

The Packers are signing wide receiver Caleb Scott to their practice squad according to a report from ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. He was part of a group of players who worked out for the Packers earlier this week.

The 6-foot-2, 203-pound Scott was a teammate of Packers linebacker Oren Burks at Vanderbilt, catching 72 passes for 1,061 yards and four touchdowns over his four-year career with the Commodores. Despite turning in a 4.4 40-yard dash and a 37-inch vertical leap at Vanderbilt’s pro day, he wasn’t selected in the 2018 NFL Draft and hasn’t made much of an impact at the NFL level since then.

He spent some time with the Seattle Seahawks but has yet to appear in an NFL game.

The Packers have shown a preference for big-bodied receivers in the Brian Gutekunst era, and Scott fits that profile. In the near term, though, he’s likely to be a strictly special teams contributor, should he ever make his way to the 53-man roster.
