On Monday, the Green Bay Packers signed ten players to reserve/futures contracts as the team began building its 90-man offseason roster. Each of those players spent time with the Packers’ practice squad in 2020, and the Packers continued that trend by announcing the inking of six more young players to deals that will keep them around through the 2021 offseason.
Each of these six players finished the year on the Packers’ practice squad, either as active members or on the reserve practice squad injury list:
- WR Reggie Begelton
- C Jake Hanson
- K JJ Molson
- CB KeiVarae Russell
- DL Delontae Scott
- WR Juwann Winfree
Hanson was a Packers draft pick in 2020 as the second of three offensive linemen the team selected in the sixth round. Hanson did not make the team out of camp, however, while the Packers kept Jon Runyan on the active 53-man roster all season and Simon Stepaniak spent much of the year on the Non-Football Injury list. Hanson and Scott both finished the season on the practice squad/injured list.
Begelton has the best story of this group, as the former Lamar University and Canadian Football League standout finally got a shot in the NFL this season. He suited up for a single game in 2020, taking the field for four total snaps against the Atlanta Falcons in week four.
These players will now be able to remain with the team on the 90-man roster through the offseason to take advantage of the team’s workout and medical facilities and to participate in the offseason workout and practice program.
