Tonight, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will get a significant test on Thursday Night Football. That test does not necessarily come from their opponents this evening, as the Philadelphia Eagles are hardly an elite NFL team at present, but rather a test of their depth due to injuries.
The Buccaneers will be missing several key players in this week six matchup, particularly on their vaunted defense. Inside linebacker Lavonte David and safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. will sit out the game with injuries, as will tight end Rob Gronkowski. They will join two of the Bucs’ top cornerbacks on the shelf, as Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting are both on injured reserve.
The Eagles have some injury situations of their own to deal with, however. Right tackle Lane Johnson has been ruled out due to an unspecified personal matter, while tight end Dallas Goedert will miss the game after being placed on the reseve/COVID-19 list. Thus, this contest could come down to which team’s depth can allow them to weather the injury attrition better.
