Week 9 NFL Picks: Packers are now 7.5-point underdogs without Rodgers

Can the Packers overcome the loss of their starting QB on Sunday in KC?

On Tuesday morning, following the Kansas City Chiefs’ narrow victory over the New York Giants, the line for Sunday’s Green Bay Packers-Chiefs game was as low as 1.5 points in Kansas City’s favor. A few things have happened since then, however, most notably Aaron Rodgers’ positive COVID-19 test and the revelation about his status as an unvaccinated individual.

With Rodgers out and Jordan Love slated to start, the point spread for Sunday’s game ballooned almost instantly, jumping up to as much as eight points at one time before settling around Chiefs -7.5, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Kansas City’s 4-4 record is hardly impressive, however, and dating back to week nine of the 2020 season, the Chiefs have just three wins by more than six points: a 38-24 victory over Buffalo in the AFC Championship Game last January and wins over the Eagles (42-30) and the Washington Football Team (31-13) earlier this year.

Outside of that, there have been no blowout victories for Andy Reid’s team, and the Packers — even without Aaron Rodgers — are hoping to keep this game close as well and find a path to victory behind their young backup quarterback. Acme Packing Company is back to give you our picks for the Packers-Chiefs game, as well as for all of the other contests across the NFL this week.
