One game between ranked teams? Just one? That’s all we get on this early-November college football Saturday?
Believe it or not, that’s true for today’s schedule. Despite 24 out of the 25 teams in the initial College Football Playoff rankings being in action this week (only #8 Oklahoma is idle), there is just one matchup between teams listed on the rankings.
That game comes in the SEC and ACC. In the mid-afternoon time slot, #13 Auburn travels to College Station to play #14 Texas A&M to fight for second place in the SEC West behind #2 Alabama. Outside of that, it’s a lot of conference games with little in the way of notable rivalry or competitive intrigue to get the casual fan excited.
Perhaps the best rivalry game on the schedule is LSU-Alabama, a contest that normally is high on impact on the national landscape as well. But with LSU’s struggles and the issues swirling around coach Ed Orgeron, this game looks like a rout. Even the Big Ten’s glut of ranked teams hardly have an exciting game in the bunch — Ohio State visiting Nebraska early might be the most appealing game to a fan from outside the conference.
Still, it’s football, and we’ll be watching. So join us here and follow along with all of today’s action.
