Today is a good day for Love.
That’s Jordan Love, of course, who will be making his first regular season start at quarterback as a professional for the Green Bay Packers today. Love and the Packers are in Kansas City to play the Chiefs in the NFL’s premier Sunday afternoon game, one which has perhaps lost a bit of star power but has no less intrigue than it did a few days ago.
Love is starting because of Aaron Rodgers’ positive COVID-19 test from earlier this week, which, combined with his status as an unvaccinated player, will keep him out for this game and through at least most of next week as well. Enter Love, the team’s first-round draft pick in 2020 and the owner of just seven pass attempts in his NFL career — all coming in the Packers’ week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
On the other sideline is Patrick Mahomes, who missed the meeting of these two teams two years ago with a knee injury. Mahomes has been particularly turnover-prone this season, but is still racking up yards and touchdowns — a necessity, given the abysmal performance from the Chiefs’ defense throughout most of this season.
