Aaron Jones is coming back to Green Bay. Corey Linsley is headed to the West Coast. And Jamaal Williams...well, we don’t yet know where he will end up, but it will be somewhere outside of Wisconsin.

Those are the big storylines from the last 48 hours as the Green Bay Packers made their first big move of the 2021 free agency period and saw their first major departure. Linsley’s new contract with the Los Angeles Chargers makes him the NFL’s highest-paid center — deservedly so — but it creates a hole on the line that the Packers will need to get creative to fill.

However, reports out of Green Bay indicate that the team is looking to patch up defensive holes with a free agent addition or two rather than finding substantial offensive line help. With cornerback and defensive line seemingly being positions of need, look for the team to be involved in some negotiations over the next few days and for the team to extend a few veteran players’ contracts to free up the cap space to do so.

Packers showing interest in multiple CBs and DLs early in free agency | Packers Wire
Green Bay has not landed any big fish, as expected, but they are apparently looking into the obvious positions on defense. Look for a mid-level free agent or two at those positions in the coming days, though contracts for those types of players may take a few days as the league gets through the big-money phase.

Corner and defensive line are pretty deep groups in this year's class, however, so the Packers should have some solid options to choose from.

All of these items are more or less expected to happen, including contract extensions for Za'Darius Smith and Davante Adams. Those deals will be how the team can free up some cap space for any additions, but expect at least one to get done by Wednesday to make the room for Aaron Jones' deal.
