Draft season is here! You’re obsessing over Pro Day testing, mashing refresh on your browser to see the latest trades, and going to bat for your favorite prospects. But with only a few weeks until the draft, there are a lot of unknowns. While it’s no secret that the Jaguars are probably going with Trevor Lawrence at #1, things are going to get crazy starting with the 49ers at pick 3. So we decided to let you predict the outcome of the first round!
Every weekday at 11 AM EST and 4 PM EST, we’ll be posting polls here and on Instagram and Twitter to find out who you think is being picked. In addition, we’ll be including short prospect breakdowns on each post that break down the most likely players to be selected at each spot. Today’s picks will be the Jacksonville Jaguars at 11 AM and the New York Jets at 4 PM with the 1st and 2nd picks.
The Jaguars are up first and they are almost certainly taking a quarterback with this pick. Below, you will find breakdowns of the top QB’s in the draft. But let’s be honest, this pick is a done deal. Make it official in the poll and watch out for pick number two this afternoon!
Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Look, it’s probably a sure thing that Lawrence is going #1 overall. He claimed the starting job at Clemson as a true freshman and led the Tigers to an undefeated season and a national title, then improved in basically every passing stat each season (efficiency numbers were up in 2020, though total numbers were down due to COVID shortening the season). Some scouts are talking about Lawrence being the best quarterback prospect in decades, putting him in the same air as Andrew Luck and John Elway. He has the size and stature at 6-foot-6 and over 230 pounds, but he has great mobility as well.
Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
If Trevor Lawrence was the career superstar, Wilson is the late-bloomer, at least in terms of his college career. He took a massive jump in 2020, improving his completion percentage by almost ten points over his previous career average and his yards per attempt by almost three yards. Wilson has an Aaron Rodgers-like build at about 6-foot-2 and 214 pounds, and he throws on the run well, an essential trait in today’s NFL.
Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
After a year as a gadget weapon at Georgia, Fields transferred to Ohio State, where he started for two seasons and led the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff twice, losing to Clemson as the 2-seed in 2019 but taking the Tigers to the woodshed this January before losing to Alabama in the title game. Fields’ performance in the 2021 Sugar Bowl was tremendous, as he showed off his toughness after a hard hit to the ribs early in the game and his arm strength with deep throws all over the field. His athleticism (reportedly ran his 40 in the low 4.4s) should have coaches salivating as well.
Without further ado,
With the 1st pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select…
