Seventh-round draft picks generally come into the NFL with little or no expectations. Those draft picks are basically scratch-off tickets, as teams grab their last players that they want to claim exclusive rights to before reaching the undrafted free agency phase of Draft weekend.
This year, however, the Green Bay Packers’ 7th-round pick looks like he may be able to contribute early on in his career. Kylin Hill has been impressing in training camp, both in and out of pads, and he is earning praise from multiple beat writers for his performances in practice. If he can contribute on special teams and in the passing game, Hill should have a great shot at earning the third running back job this fall.
With that being said, Acme Packing Company will have an interview with arguably the greatest 7th-round pick in Packers history, Donald Driver. Stay tuned for that coming up soon.
Back to the matter at hand though. Hill is hardly the only young Packer who has impressed so far in camp. The team is getting good play out of Chandon Sullivan, whose age (he just turned 25 on Saturday) belies his three years of NFL experience. Sullivan started ten games last season for the Packers and appears to be on track to earning the bulk of the reps in the slot once again as the Star corner in Joe Barry’s defense.
Keep an eye on those two players as the Packers head back outside for a public practice today, the first of two this week before their preseason opener on Saturday against the Houston Texans.
5 things learned at Packers training camp – Aug. 9 | Packers.com
The Packers did practice on Monday, but it was closed to the public. Still, there were a few notable items from the session and player availability afterwards, including Chandon Sullivan feeling comfortable and excited about manning the Star position.
Film room tackles and new mantras: Joe Barry brings change to Packers' defense - ESPN
There have been no shortage of stories about Barry's energy or the ridiculous "tackle" he made during a meeting earlier this season, but he finally weighed in on it: "In the moment, I just flailed on the ground and rolled. I actually hit my frickin’ elbow on the damn ground, and that hurt. But the guys loved it."
Who's rising (Kylin Hill) and who's falling (Kevin King) after two weeks in camp? – The Athletic (subscription)
Hill is not-very-quietly having a very good camp as a rookie, and he probably will head into the preseason opener this weekend as the front-runner for the RB3 job. Meanwhile, King remains out on the PUP list, while the group of injured players swelled on Monday coming out of Family Night.
Packers will continue contract discussions with WR Davante Adams into season | Packers Wire
Brian Gutekunst appears determined to find a way to keep Adams around after 2021, and if that means working on an extension during the season, then so be it. The team has signed plenty of players to in-season deals in the past; in fact, Adams himself signed his current deal just before the final game of the 2017 campaign.
Suspect arrested in crime spree that began with West El Paso beer run | El Paso Times
Who among us hasn't had a craving for donuts after a few drinks? Pro tip: there are services that will deliver beer now, so don't drive drunk to the store for a beer run and steal a Krispy Kreme truck from the parking lot.
