Two years ago, the Green Bay Packers opened up the 2019 preseason with a home game against the Houston Texans. Tonight, they will do the same for 2021 as the two teams meet in their first exhibition games of the summer.

Player evaluation is the name of this game, as both teams should be keeping their veteran starters out for the contest. Aaron Rodgers certainly will not play for the Packers, who will instead get their first look at quarterback Jordan Love in real game action. Love should play well into the second half as the Packers will allow him to put as much on tape as possible in this game before Kurt Benkert takes over late.

Meanwhile, the Packers have some intriguing position battles to watch on both sides of the football. The interior of the offensive line is a work in progress at present, particularly the guard positions which are up for grabs with Elgton Jenkins currently playing left tackle. Will Jon Runyan and Lucas Patrick take hold of starting positions, or will surprising candidates like Ben Braden stake a claim that they are worthy of stronger consideration?

On defense, the second string in particular will be worth watching. Who will make the team to back up the Smiths and Rashan Gary on the edge? Can someone step up as a viable reserve defensive lineman capable of making some splash plays? And which cornerbacks will earn reps behind the likes of Jaire Alexander?
