The Green Bay Packers are almost ready to conclude the preseason and training camp for 2021. However, the team has its first road trip of the year to get through first, a trip to the banks of a different great lake.
The Packers head to Buffalo this weekend to take on the Bills in the teams’ preseason finale on Saturday in an early afternoon game, the first game of a nationally-televised Saturday tripleheader on NFL Network. That’s good news for fans around the country who get the channel on cable, satellite, or streaming services, who can watch the final contest live.
Jordan Love is expected to be back on the field for Saturday’s game, giving him another chance to take live game reps. He sat out last Saturday’s game against the New York Jets due to a shoulder injury he suffered in the preseason opener, and Kurt Benkert played well for much of the last game in his place. While Love’s spot as the Packers’ primary backup is not in question, it will be helpful to see him on the field once again before he heads to the bench for week one.
Meanwhile, the Packers still have some starting jobs to settle, particularly on the interior of the offensive line. The team continues to shuffle players through the two guard positions, and the final preseason game should help the team make its final decisions about the week one starters there.
While Love starts for the Packers, Josh Allen will take the field for the Bills to start the game. Look for him to play a series or two, but that should give the Packers’ young players on defense a chance to show what they can do against one of 2020’s best quarterbacks.
