The Green Bay Packers have officially ruled out “starting” left tackle Elgton Jenkins due to an ankle injury that he sustained during Monday Night Football against the Detroit Lions. Safety Vernon Scott, who has been dealing with a hamstring issue since the preseason, was also ruled out, meaning the Packers have just three safeties on game day for the third straight week of the season.
Cornerback Kevin King is a surprise inactive, as the starting cornerback was ruled out by the team just five hours before the game due to an illness. The only healthy scratch for the Packers vs San Francisco is pass-rusher La’Darius Hamilton, who was picked off of waivers last week but did not play in Week 2, either.
Three Green Bay Packers should be making their season debuts today, based on the inactives release: slotback Shemar Jean-Charles, center Jake Hanson, and defensive lineman Jack Heflin. It will be interesting to see if Jean-Charles and Heflin enter the lineup, as the Packers will need to adjust their cornerback rotation due to King’s absence and their defensive line has desperately needed some more juice upfront this season.
Tight end Josiah Deguara, who missed last week due to a concussion, is active today, too. He should see the field today, as blocking tight end/fullback Dominique Dafney was placed on injured reserve this week due to a hip injury.
On the San Francisco end, their inactives of running back Elijah Mitchell, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, cornerback Ambry Thomas, and offensive lineman Aaron Banks were expected. Mitchell, their biggest name missing today, has been listed as doubtful leading up to the game.
