Packers re-sign RB James Robinson and WR Bo Melton

In the matter of a week, Robinson and Melton have gone from the practice squad to the active roster to being released to being re-signed to the practice squad.

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, running back James Robinson and receiver Bo Melton were back in Green Bay for Packers practice on Wednesday, indicating that they’ve re-signed with the team’s practice squad. Robinson and Melton were promoted to the team’s 53-man roster last week, when the Packers needed bodies for their short-week battle against the Detroit Lions, but were released and subject to waivers on Monday.

Robinson didn’t see game action against the Lions, but Melton played a handful of snaps — both on offense and on special teams. Melton has been on the Packers’ practice squad for the entire regular season, outside of his stint on the active roster, while Robinson has been on and off the team multiple times this year.

The Packers also signed Joel Wilson, a tight end, to the practice squad this week and released cornerback Anthony Johnson, who is not to be confused with rookie safety Anthony Johnson Jr. With all of these transactions, Green Bay now has a full 17-man practice squad again, though, they do have two open roster spots on their 53-man active roster. The assumption is that they’ll eventually use those openings to bring safety Darnell Savage and cornerback Eric Stokes off of the injured reserve. Both of those defensive backs are currently working with the team in practice and have opened up their 21-day window to return to the squad.

Below is a full breakdown of the members of the Packers’ practice squad as of Week 13:

  • QB Alex McGough
  • RB James Robinson
  • RB Ellis Merriweather
  • FB Henry Pearson
  • WR Bo Melton
  • WR Grant DuBose
  • TE Joel Wilson
  • OT Kadeem Telford
  • OG/OC Michael Jordan
  • NT Jonathan Ford
  • DE Chris Slayton
  • OLB Keshawn Banks
  • OLB Kenneth Odumegwu (international exemption)
  • OLB/ILB Arron Mosby
  • ILB Austin Ajiake
  • CB Zyon Gilbert
  • SAF Benny Sapp III

Notably, Pearson, Melton and Sapp have seen regular-season action for the Packers this season. DuBose and Ford haven’t played for Green Bay during the regular season, but are former draft picks made by the franchise.
