If you thought this week was going to be the week where the Green Bay Packers finally got healthy, you’ve been sorely disappointed. On Friday, the Packers announced that both inside linebacker De’Vondre Campbell (neck) and safety Darnell Savage (shoulder) have been ruled out for this Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. Campbell, notably, went on social media this week and stated that he was no longer going to play through injuries. Head coach Matt LaFleur later said that he was going to give Campbell the week before they decided on what they were going to do. Both Campbell and Savage were both non-participants in every single practice this week.
Tight end Luke Musgrave, who is still technically on the injured reserve, was also ruled out by the team. The players who are listed as doubtful for their game against Carolina are tackle Luke Tenuta (ankle), receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) and running back Emanuel Wilson (shoulder). Like Musgrave, both Tenuta and Wilson are currently practicing with the Packers but are members of the injured reserve.
Beyond the six out/doubtful players, seven others were listed as questionable by Green Bay on their final injury report of the week. Those players are cornerback Jaire Alexander (shoulder), running back AJ Dillon (thumb), safety Rudy Ford (back), receiver Jayden Reed (toe/chest), cornerback Robert Rochell (neck), defensive lineman T.J. Slaton (knee/foot) and receiver Dontayvion Wicks. As a reminder, the Packers’ inactives who weren't healthy scratches last week were Alexander, Dillon Watson and Savage.
Ford’s injury is new, as he was not given any injury designation for Wednesday or Thursday practice. If he were to miss time, with Savage already ruled out, that would leave the Packers with a starting safety pairing of Jonathan Owens and rookie seventh-round pick Anthony Johnson Jr.
Some sort of illness is flying around Carolina’s locker room, but the Panthers seem to be getting healthier as the week develops. In the end, only three members of the team were given a questionable status going into their game against the green and gold: linebacker Claudin Cherelus (knee), safety Sam Franklin Jr. (quadricep/back) and tight end Ian Thomas (ankle).
