Wild Card opening odds: Packers are everybody’s underdog

McCarthy’s Boys have the advantage in Jerruh World.

NFL: New York Giants at Green Bay Packers Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

WILD CARD WEEKEND, BABY!

The Green Bay Packers actually did it. They beat the Chicago Bears (and covered the spread, by the way) to earn the 7th seed and a trip to the Oil Baron Retracto-dome where they will play the Dallas Cowboys.

The oddsmakers at DraftKings had the line opening with the ‘Boys as the touchdown favorites. As of this morning, the line has moved to -7.5.

Look, it’s like anything. The Packers just have to focus on the fundamentals. Keep a good pad level. Christian Watson has a hamstring. Romeo Doubs has a chest. But it’s the next man up. Let’s state the facts: Matt LaFleur is a highly successful NFL Coach. With that, we’ve never looked at the ride to this point as smooth. You’ve got to trust the system. It’s about accountability and availability. You have to stack successes.

I don’t care what you guys think. We came here to win! We’re nobody’s underdog. We need to get ready for the Cowboys and we need to get our tenth win. That’s the focus of our football team.

...

Sorry about that. Blacked out for a second there.

The Aaron Rodgers’ effect of negating home-field advantage in Jerruh World is no longer working in the Packers’ favor.

However, Jordan Love is playing his best football of the season and Aaron Jones has had at least 130 yards from scrimmage for the last three games in a row. The defense has shown improvement from literally the worst in the league when not facing Brett Rypien to being serviceable.

Every year there is the scrappy team that gets hot at the right time that “no one wants to face in the playoffs”. The Packers are the youngest team to ever earn a post-season berth and could certainly be called scrappy. Maybe a 7-point handicap is the billboard material they need.

The moneyline for the Packers is +270 which is an implied chance of winning right around ~26%. The Over/Under has been set at 49.5, so oddsmakers are expecting a shootout at the Jerruh Jones Corral.
