Cheese Curds, 8/15: Packers are coming down the final stretch of the preseason

What does a fan base have to do to get one of these kickers to take hold of the job?

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Cleveland Browns Scott Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

Believe it or not, the Green Bay Packers only have a few more practices left in training camp. In less than two weeks, the team will conclude the preseason, finish up with training camp, and have their initial 53-man roster and practice squad all set.

These two weeks will be a whirlwind, with the final preseason games coming up fast. Then it’s on to roster cuts and the opening regular season game in Brazil.

Of course, those roster decisions will be tougher in some spots than others. The kicker job in particular may be the most challenging decision of all for general manager Brian Gutekunst, though not because all of the options are impressing; in fact, it’s quite the opposite this week, with each of the team’s three kickers having a rough practice over the past two days.

Wide receiver and safety decisions will be tough as well, but for a much more positive reason as there are several players at each of those positions playing well this summer. That’s how one would hope the competitions would go, so don’t be surprised to see the Packers again roll into the season with six wide receivers and more than ten DBs.

Let’s look ahead to the final stretch of the summer ahead of the Packers’ trip to Denver this weekend.

It may not be the defense that is the biggest determinator of the team's success this season, at least according to this analysis: it could instead be the running game and Josh Jacobs.

Receiver-defensive back battles spice up Packers camp … unlike kicker competition - The Athletic ($)
There's no question that the jockeying for position on the depth chart at DB and wide receiver have been among the most interesting storylines of camp. Unfortunately, all of the kickers had a rough day on Wednesday, with Anders Carlson going 4/6 Greg Joseph going 3/7 after Alex Hale's ugly 4/8 performance the day before.
