APC Pod, 11/28: The Packers’ new power structure faces first big test

With everyone assuming Mike McCarthy is soon to be replaced, we ask: whose hire it, anyway?

The pod crew assembles to talk about the SNF theme song, the Big Pistachio lobby, Jennifer Lopez — anything to avoid engaging with the reality of the dimming playoff hopes of the Green Bay Packers following a demoralizing loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Turning our attention toward the future of the franchise, we examine the likely coaching changes to come in the context of the Packers’ new power structure — an architecture which (for now) leaves team president Mark Murphy responsible for the hiring and firing of the head coach. In Brian Gutekunst’s second offseason as General Manager, will he get to pick the next coach? Will he make a recommendation which requires sign-off from Murphy? The only thing that is clear is the murkiness of it all. These are uncertain times in Green Bay.
