Packers Wearing Throwback Uniform for Cleveland, Hold 2-0 Record In Third Jersey

This is a friendly reminder that the Packers will be trading in their green jerseys for blues this week.

Don't be alarmed when you flip on the Green Bay Packers' Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday. No, that's not the wrong game you're watching. It's just that the Packers have chosen to wear their somewhat controversial throwback jerseys for this week's game.

As our own Jason Hirschhorn told you a while back, this year's version will be a little bit different from past iterations of the third jersey, as the league has required players to wear the same helmet each week this year. That means that the Packers will be wearing blank yellow helmets instead of the brown ones they wore previously.

While we look ahead to Sunday's game, we decided to take a look back at the past success the Packers have had wearing their third jersey. They hold a 2-0 record in the games in which they have worn these particular throwback jerseys.

Most recently, in 2011, Green Bay defeated the St. Louis Rams at home by a score of 24-3. That game featured three second-quarter touchdown passes from Aaron Rodgers, including a 93-yarder to Jordy Nelson. Green Bay was actually out-gained in yardage that day, 424-399, but St. Louis never really challenged thanks to an interception, a missed field goal, and three failed fourth-down conversions.

In the 2010 season, they defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-16 in week 13 on their way to a Super Bowl title. The defense could not contain Vernon Davis, who caught four passes for 124 yards and a touchdown, but Green Bay outscored San Francisco 20-3 in the second half to get the win. The best highlight in the throwback jerseys took place in this game, however, as veteran Donald Driver was unstoppable on a 61-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown.

Here's hoping that the Packers create another highlight worthy of that play's legacy in a win this Sunday over the Browns, and that the pants are as comfortable as Aaron Rodgers remembers.
