Packers Training Camp Practice: Updates and Live Thread for August 19, 2014

After an impressive Monday practice by Flynn and Tolzien, the QBs look to repeat in Tuesday's session.

On Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers are scheduled to hold an open practice for the second of three straight days, starting at 11:45 AM Central Time. Monday's practice was moved inside and closed to the public due to weather conditions, and Tuesday's is in danger of the same, so keep an eye out for announcements regarding the weather as this morning goes along.

UPDATE: Practice is indeed open to the public today, as a member of the Green Bay Press-Gazette confirmed that the gates to Ray Nitschke Field are open.

In Monday's practice, both backup quarterbacks (Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien) were extremely sharp, and they are making a decision difficult for Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson. If they both keep up the excellent play (and if both play well in the final two preseason games), it's possible that they may force the team to keep them both, despite many fans (and this blogger's) opinions that the team would be best served carrying only two quarterbacks.

In addition to their good play yesterday, the safeties (in particular, rookie Ha Ha Clinton-Dix) were active on Monday, intercepting three passes total and nearly a fourth. The team will want to see more of that playmaking ability from that unit as the preseason starts to wind down, and that's a good way for young players like Chris Banjo (who had a pick yesterday and one that against the Rams that was overturned by penalty) to keep their names in consideration for a roster spot.

Enjoy practice, and we'll be back this afternoon with our notebook and quotes from Mike McCarthy.
