Packers Injury Report: Matthews, Burnett, Lacy all Probable for Sunday

The Packers' bye week appears to have paid dividends, as the team is getting healthy for the week 5 game against the Lions.

US PRESSWIRE

We finally have some good news to report on the injury front. The Packers released their injury report today as part of their weekly Friday press conference, and the "Probable" designation is a popular one this week. Here's the full list of players who are on this week's report:

Player Position Injury Status
Morgan Burnett S Hamstring Probable
Jarrett Bush CB Hamstring Probable
Jermichael Finley TE Concussion Probable
Johnathan Franklin RB Foot Probable
John Kuhn FB Hamstring Probable
Eddie Lacy RB Concussion Probable
Clay Matthews OLB Hamstring Probable
Casey Hayward CB Hamstring OUT
James Starks RB Knee OUT
Greg Van Roten C/G Foot OUT

That should make Packers fans happy to see that many starters on the probable side rather than the OUT side. Matthews could be eased into the game and the coaching staff will probably not want him playing 100% of the team's snaps on defense, but his availability and playmaking ability will be crucial against Reggie Bush and in the pass rush.

Lacy appears ready to start on Sunday, with Franklin as his primary backup.

Kuhn and Finley's availability will allow the Packers' offense to be more versatile again, and will allow for bigger sets with multiple tight ends and blockers. With Kuhn at fullback, Andrew Quarless can be freed up to play on the line, which could open up opportunities for Finley to split out wide or in the slot. Kuhn also will likely play on some third downs in pass protection, which will be crucial against the Lions' defensive line.

We'll bring you the inactives as soon as we can on Sunday morning, but at least we only know three of them at this point in the week.
