If you’re looking for a top tight end in the 2020 NFL Draft to come in and help your favorite NFL team improve, you might be in for a disappointment. It appears that this year’s tight end group is a far cry from last year’s excellent class, which featured a pair of first-round picks and six players in the top 75.
Last year, the Green Bay Packers made that sixth and final tight end pick at 75, grabbing Jace Sternberger from Texas A&M. But overall, the athleticism and ball skills of the 2020 tight ends leave something to be desired. A few individual times in certain drills jump out, but no one player had a truly transcendent workout like Noah Fant’s last February.
Perhaps the best overall performance on Thursday belonged to Virginia Tech’s Dalton Keene, He had a decent 4.71-second 40-yard dash, but then put up the best numbers at the position in the broad jump (10-foot-5) and the short shuttle (4.19 seconds). Meanwhile, the best 40 came from Missouri’s Albert Okwuegbunam, instead, who ran an impressive 4.49-second time at 6-foot-5 and 258 pounds. However, he did not participate in any other drills.
Here are the full workout results for the tight ends from Thursday evening.
