2020 Combine Results, CB: C.J. Henderson, Jeff Okudah impress in incomplete workouts

At cornerback, movement skills are critical. Corners are reacting to wide receivers’ routes, and as such must possess excellent speed and quickness to stay with those dynamic offensive players. Furthermore, many teams — the Green Bay Packers among them — seem to hold specific testing requirements for corners, in many cases sticking more firmly to them at that position than at any other.

As a result, the testing numbers from the 2020 NFL Combine for the corners are critical to the assessment of these individuals as football players at the professional level. And this year in Indy, the best players at the position did not disappoint.

Indeed, the top corners on most analysts’ draft boards did largely as expected, with Ohio State’s Jeff Okudah and C.J. Henderson of Florida performing well in the drills that they completed. Henderson did not run agility, but tied for the second-best time at the position with a 4.39 second 40. He also posted good jumps of 37.5 inches in the vertical and 10-foot-7 in the broad jump, while benching 20 reps at 225 pounds.

Okudah, meanwhile, posted a stellar workout minus agility drills as well, though he came up injured during catching drills. His 40 time went for an official 4.48-second time, coming after he led the corners with a 41-inch vertical and 11-foot-3 broad jump.

Iowa’s Michael Ojemudia may have posted the best all-around complete athletic workout, meanwhile, as he skipped only one drill: the bench press. His movement skills in all capacities were very good, as he posted a 40 time of 4.45 seconds and was second-best at the position in the 3-cone drill at 6.87 seconds. He also jumped well with a 36-inch vertical and 10-foot-2 broad jump.
