2015 NFL Mock Draft: Patriots select Bud Dupree at #32

A surprising fall for one of the better pass-rushers in the draft ends with the final pick in round one.

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

The Super Bowl champion New England Patriots are on the clock in the APC Mock Draft and as one would expect from the reigning league champs, there aren't too many holes to fill on the roster.

Yes, Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner are gone, leaving some gaps in the secondary. The interior of the offensive line is also a bit of a question mark. However, Bill Belichick doesn't tend to reach for need picks, and with one particular player taking a surprise tumble down the draft board in our mock, this pick was an easy one for me.

For the Patriots, this might be a dream scenario. I was able to find one of the top edge rushers in this year's draft all the way down at 32 - and there's no way I could pass him up. With the 32nd pick, the Patriots select...

Alvin "Bud" Dupree, defensive end, Kentucky

Height: 6'4"
Weight: 269 pounds
Combine 40 time: 4.54

Again, Dupree falling to 32 is a shock to me. I expected he would be long gone, more likely to a 3-4 team like Arizona, New Orleans, or even the Packers.

But in New England, Dupree would be a great fit as an edge rusher in whatever alignment Bill Belichick chooses to use in a given week. Whether rushing with his hand on or off the ground, he should be able to disrupt the backfield. No, edge rushers aren't really a need with Chandler Jones, Rob Ninkovich, and Jabaal Sheard all manning the position, but Belichick will find a way to get Dupree on the field.
