With the third pick in the 2015 Acme Packing Company mock draft, Ryan Bissell assumed the role of the Jacksonville Jaguars' GM. He has selected:
Amari Cooper, wide receiver, Alabama
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 211 pounds
Combine 40 time: 4.42 seconds
Here's Ryan's explanation of the pick:
With Leonard Williams off the board, the Jaguars elected to use the 3rd overall pick to provide Blake Bortles with another weapon; Amari Cooper. If the Jaguars want to see significant improvement from their prospective franchise quarterback this season, it'd be logical to use this pick on Cooper. Even after the signing of Julius Thomas, the Jags could use a dynamic playmaker on the outside. The Jaguars were among a handful of teams that expressed interest in Randall Cobb, so they're clearly in the market for a receiver. Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson showed potential during their rookie seasons, but shouldn't be relied on to carry the load in the passing game. Cooper would take some of the attention off of them and Allen Hurns.
Jacksonville has used its past five first round picks, which were all in the top 10, on offense. It wouldn't be a surprise to see defensive-minded coach Gus Bradley take Leonard Williams or Dante Fowler here. However, it will be interesting to see which direction they go in if Williams isn't available. Although there are more pressing positional needs than wide receiver on the roster, Amari Cooper would take some of the pressure off of their young receiving corps.
