APC Mock Draft 2017, Round 2: Packers land Chris Wormley to bolster defensive line

As we wrap up our mock for this year, we look at our second round projections and find a nice 5-tech prospect for the Packers.

With less than two weeks to go until the 2017 NFL Draft, you can’t go more than two or three clicks on the internet without stumbling onto a mock draft.

That also means that it’s time for APC’s contributors to fire up the draft projection parts of our brains and put our heads together for the official APC mock draft. Seven contributors are pitching in for this year’s mock, each of whom was assigned either four or five teams. We also took care not to assign more than one team from the same division to any one writer.

After stretching out round one over a few days, we are giving you the entire second round of the APC Mock Draft in one shot today. While we were unable to find a top cornerback prospect for the Green Bay Packers with the 61st pick, Jason was able to still land a defensive player who projects as a significant contributor in 2017 and beyond. It’s just that he went for the defensive line instead, taking Michigan defensive tackle Chris Wormley.

The 6’5”, 298-pound Wormley would seem to be a fit as a 5-technique defensive end when the Packers are in their base 3-4 package, and he should also be able to rush from the interior tackle position when the Packers line up in nickel or dime. He was named first-team All-Big Ten as a senior, when he recorded six sacks and blocked a stunning three kicks. He also has exceptional movement skills for a nearly-300-pound man, as he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.85 seconds at Michigan’s Pro Day and posted an incredible 7.08-second time in the 3-cone drill.
