At 8:00 PM Eastern tonight, the 2021 NFL Draft will get underway. The Green Bay Packers, under the command of general manager Brian Gutekunst are scheduled to make ten selections over the next three days, including one during this evening’s first round.

That pick is the 29th overall selection, determined by the Packers’ season ending with a loss in the Conference Championship round of last season’s playoffs. By virtue of tiebreakers, the Packers ended up one spot ahead of the AFC Championship losers, the Buffalo Bills, after the two teams finished with identical 13-3 regular season records.

In addition to their seven standard draft picks, one in each round of the draft, the Packers also added three additional selections via the compensatory draft pick process. Green Bay adds picks in the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds as a result of losing free agents during the 2020 offseason, with those picks coming corresponding to the losses of offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga, linebacker Blake Martinez, and edge rusher Kyler Fackrell, respectively.

Here are the Packers’ picks as they stand heading into Thursday night:

  • Round 1: 29 overall
  • Round 2: 62 overall
  • Round 3: 92 overall
  • Round 4: 135 overall
  • Round 4: 142 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 5: 173 overall
  • Round 5: 178 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 6: 214 overall
  • Round 6: 220 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 7: 256 overall

In total, these picks give Green Bay one of the lower quantities of draft capital in the NFL, despite having ten selections. The Packers have shown a penchant for moving up in the draft under Gutekunst, however, trading up in the first round of each of his three drafts at the helm of the franchise. But just how far could the Packers feasibly get?
