When the Packers clock started at 29, there were certain players who would simply not be in play for Brian Gutekunst and Co. They have a type and that type generally features speed, explosiveness, and athletic upside. Eric Stokes fits that bill with a reported 4.24 40 time and a vertical jump that would make NBA players jealous (41 inches). Whoever comes off the board at 62 and 92 likely fits a similar mold.
In short, their “Best players available” won’t look like other team’s best players available, not because of different grades (though that too) but because Green Bay rarely even looks at players unless they offer the requisite physical fit.
So who will be there on Day 2 and be worth taking when Green Bay selects? This list comes directly from the Packers hot list we put together and it’s worth noting Stokes topped the list of cornerbacks left on the list when Green Bay took him. Rankings are based on The Athletic’s composite board, which did an excellent job projecting the first round. Of the players taken Thursday night, all but four were in the top-32 on the composite board.
It’s also worth noting Gutekunst reportedly tried to trade up last year to get one of the receivers they coveted but wasn’t able to get high enough. The Moore Bros (no relation), Terrace Marshall, and Dyami Brown could all fit the bill for Green Bay. There’s also a bevy of offensive linemen who could pique their interest.
For a team looking to add at OT and WR, or even still add to the defensive backfield, the group of remaining players offers myriad quality options for Green Bay.
