The Green Bay Packers had two picks to make in quick succession near the end of the 5th round of the 2021 NFL Draft. At 173, the Packers selected giant nose tackle Tedarrell Slaton out of Florida before going on the clock minutes later with the 178th overall selection.

With that pick, the Packers have selected cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles from Appalachian State University.

Jean-Charles is not a prototypical Packers athlete at cornerback, measuring in on the small side (5-foot-10-3/8 and 184 pounds). Nor is he a typically fluid athlete, recording a 3-cone time of 7.15 seconds and a 40 time of 4.51. However, he appears to have a tremendous football IQ, as he broke up 17 passes as a senior to lead all FBS players.

He was also responsible for some big plays as well, recording one interception and one forced fumble in each of his two seasons as a starter.

The Packers will be back on the clock again with the 214th pick in the draft, late in round six.
