Football is here.
That's a sentence that many - this writer included - did not expect to type in 2020, particularly a few months ago when unbubbled sports were having trouble controlling the coronavirus. But here we are: the NFL has done a good job of keeping itself and the virus contained, thanks in large part to widespread testing and general personal responsibility on the part of all involved.
That means that the Green Bay Packers get to kick off their season on schedule, with their opening game today taking place in U.S. Bank Stadium. In their path is a familiar opponent, the Minnesota Vikings -- a team that the Packers swept a year ago. Of course, the stadium will be empty, a stark reminder that society as a whole still has a long way to go in its response to the pandemic.
For a few hours today, though, football is back. Join us throughout the day today as we celebrate the return of football and the Packers' opener.
