The Green Bay Packers’ secondary will be shorthanded on Sunday against a talented group of Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receivers. Cornerback Kevin King is one of the team’s inactive players for Sunday’s game, which will be a significant blow to the defensive backfield.
The Buccaneers have the services of both Chris Godwin and Mike Evans today, making King’s absence more significant. If he had played, King likely would have shadowed Evans, the big-bodied receiver from Texas A&M, while Jaire Alexander would draw the matchup against Godwin. Now, the team will be forced to either avoid playing matchup coverage or put the likes of Josh Jackson and Ka’Dar Hollman on Evans.
Joining King on the sidelines today are quarterback Jordan Love and return man/running back/wide receiver/general all-around offensive weapon Tyler Ervin. Ervin’s wrist injury will keep him out today, with return duties going to Jackson or wide receivers Darrius Shepherd and Malik Taylor.
Green Bay will have just three players inactive due to carrying just 51 players on the active roster heading into the game. However, this means that the team’s pass rush group is at full strength, with Rashan Gary and Za’Darius Smith both active, while recently-activated wideout Equanimeous St. Brown will play as well.
Meanwhile, running back Leonard Fournette is inactive for Tampa Bay. The former Jacksonville Jaguar will not play today, leaving the bulk of the running up to Ronald Jones and LeSean McCoy.
Here are the full inactives lists for both teams.
