Packers are waiting to discuss new contract with CB Davon House, per report

If one report is true, the Packers are taking a suspiciously strange tactic with one of their younger and more desirable free agents this offseason.

Paul Imig of FOX Sports Wisconsin reported on Friday that, according to a source, the Packers have not reached out to Davon House or his agent, all offseason. Furthermore, the source says that House's camp is "very surprised" by the lack of communication from the team.

The reason for this lack of communication is puzzling. Tramon Williams has apparently been contacted; in fact, he reportedly already turned down a two-year contract offer from Green Bay. With that in mind, it seems logical that the Packers would have reached out to House as well, but apparently that is not the case.

Of course, the team has focused its efforts on the two big names, Randall Cobb and Bryan Bulaga, with Cobb's negotiations claiming all of the headlines. Not talking to House seems to suggest that either the team does not plan to try to retain him for 2015 and beyond at any price (which would seem highly unlikely) or that the team intends to let him test the open market first before beginning contract negotiations.

House's value is likely predicated on the going rate for cornerbacks in this year's market, however; Byron Maxwell of Seattle is the top corner available and may be the one to set the market for the rest of the position. Perhaps the Packers are just waiting to see what Maxwell gets before beginning talks with their own young defensive back.
