Today, Acme Packing Company continues the examination of the Green Bay Packers’ 2016 roster. We continue to break down a different position on the roster throughout the week with examinations of the players on the 53-man roster in 2016, the contributions of new additions and players who signed new contracts, and players who have contracts expiring this offseason.
This year, there is very little that needs to be said about the Green Bay Packers’ defensive line, as far as free agency is concerned. There is just one man on the line who will need a new contract before next season.
Christian Ringo
Years in the NFL - 2 years
Status - Exclusive Rights Free Agent
Expiring Contract - One-year, $450,000
Ringo was a small school prospect out of UL-Lafayette (U-La La for some). This Ragin’ Cajun was seen as too short to be an NFL Defensive Tackle. The Packers saw what Mike Daniels could do and they took a chance with Ringo, who has a very similar body type.
Christian Ringo spent his first NFL season on the practice squad in 2015. This season, Ringo made the league minimum for someone with no accrued seasons ($450,000). As such, the Packers can tender Ringo on a one-year contract worth about $540,000 and keep him in Green Bay. As an exclusive-rights free agent, Ringo will not have much to say about this, as he will have to accept the tender or negotiate a new deal with the Packers. He has not had much time on the field, but the price is right.
