Packers 2014 Roster Preview: Two Additions at Offensive Tackle

New, comments

Comfortable with their offensive tackle depth, the Packers added only a pair of young tackles this offseason.

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

To prepare for training camp, we will be breaking down every player on the Green Bay Packers' 90-man roster in more detail, looking at contract terms and 2013 statistics, before we make our prediction for which players will make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp.

We move now to address the Packers' two additions at offensive tackle.

#60 Jeremy Vujnovich

6-5, 290 lbs
How acquired: signed to futures contract, 2014

2014 Contract Terms (signed through 2015)

Base salary: $420,000
Total compensation: $420,000
Cap number: $420,000

2013 Statistics

Louisiana College
10 games played, 10 starts

Jeremy Vujnovich's signing underscores two core principles of Ted Thompson's draft philosophy: the best collegiate blockers line up at left tackle, and starts are a great indicator for success. Those rules apply even when to little known Division III prospects. A four-year, 40-game starter at Louisiana College, Vujnovich earned 1st-team ASC All-Conference honors. That was enough to net him a spot on the Packers' 90-man roster. Whether he does anything with it is anyone's guess at this point. Certainly, the depth ahead of him suggests Vujnovich's best-case scenario is winning a spot on the practice squad.

#79 John Fullington

6-5, 300 lbs
How acquired: signed as undrafted free agent, 2014

2014 Contract Terms (signed through 2016)

Base salary: $420,000
Signing bonus: $5,000
Total compensation: $427,000
Salary cap hit: $421,666

2013 Statistics

Washington State University Cougars
13 games played, 13 starts

Fullington has played all over the offensive line. In 2013 he started five games at right guard before moving out to right tackle for the final eight contests. The prior year he started games at both left guard and left tackle as well. Currently, the official Packers roster on the team website lists Fullington as a tackle, even though he probably projects to guard at the pro level and practiced at guard through much of OTAs and minicamp. Much like Don Barclay, his versatility may come in handy and give him an outside shot at the 53-man roster, but he's more likely headed to land on the practice squad for a season to add bulk to his large frame.
