In a press release today, the Green Bay Packers announced that they have added a body to the kicking competition. That body is rookie Zach Ramirez, who kicked at Portland State in college and tried out for the Seattle Seahawks earlier this year. Ramirez hit 4 of 7 field goal attempts as a senior in 2012 and 24 of 27 overall for his career. He figures to get some chances today to kick field goals in practice.
In addition to announcing this signing, the Packers also announced the roster cuts we reported yesterday, along with two more. Nose tackle Gilbert Pena and running back Angelo Pease have both been let go in addition to the trio of wide receivers (Alex Gillett, Omarius Hines, and Justin Wilson) and backup quarterback Graham Harrell.
With today's transactions, the Packers' roster now sits at 85 players, meaning another 10 will need to be released before Tuesday's deadline to cut down to 75 players hits at 3:00 Central Time..
