Training Camp 2015: Packers' Clay Matthews, Mike Neal, and others return to practice

The Packers got four injured players back on the field on Monday, which should get them back closer to a regular rotation at the linebacker position.

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers got good news on the injury front on Monday, as several of their injured linebackers have returned from injury at the start of today's practice.

Arguably the biggest news of the morning came during Mike McCarthy's pre-practice press conference (an oddity this time of year, as he normally meets with the media afterwards). McCarthy confirmed that Clay Matthews is returning to practice today, albeit on a "trial" basis:

His comments were confirmed by beat reporters, who noted that Matthews was suited up in pads to start practice this afternoon.

Also returning and helping to bolster the outside linebacker unit is Mike Neal, who has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list throughout training camp:

Neal's participation is confirmation that he has now passed his physical and is off the PUP list.

Finally, young linebackers Adrian Hubbard and Jayrone Elliott both returned as well, according to Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette:

All of this is great news for a depleted unit which had more injured players than those participating in Saturday's Family Night practice. At least as of the start of practice, Nick Perry is the only outside linebacker not reported to be practicing.
