Wednesday was a notable day for the Green Bay Packers, particularly at the safety position. With the team practicing in pads again, that position group got a big boost as rookie Darnell Savage, Jr. finally started practicing after starting training camp on the NFI list.

Savage’s return is a welcome one, even if he did take it easy on his first day. He went through walkthroughs with the starters, but was held out of full-speed drills as he works his way back to full strength after his wisdom teeth extraction. Raven Greene continues to get the first-team work when Savage is unavailable, in a clear sign that Greene is the next man up.

However, another safety had a rough day. Josh Jones got himself benched after he got a little too aggressive in tackling a teammate, leading to the first fight of camp. Jones seemingly had a good start to training camp after skipping OTAs in the hopes of forcing a trade; despite his claims that he’s not a linebacker, that’s where he has been spending most of his time so far.

On Thursday, keep an eye out to see if there are any lingering disciplinary actions for Jones, and to find out if Savage is back full-go. Enjoy today’s practice, and Go Pack Go!
