We take a look at the game tape from the Packers third preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks and hand out grades at each position.

After unimpressive performances in the first two preseason games, the Packers defensive line was finally able to create a noticeable pass rush in Friday night's 17-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The first-string defense was able to keep the big plays at a minimum, and keep Russell Wilson on his heels (besides a 15-yard scramble on the first drive).

The first-string offense looked sharp, but was unable to punch the ball into the endzone for the third straight week. The lack of a run game was alarming, but the Seattle defense is considered by many to be the best in the NFL. Overall, the team looked focused, and played aggressive from start to finish. It was a promising sign in the "dress rehearsal" game of the preseason.

Let's take a look at the grades for this week:

Quarterback: B

Aaron Rodgers appeared in regular season form on his only series of the game. He extended plays with his legs, and made a beautiful throw to Jermichael Finley on a seam route. Rodgers finished 4 for 7 with 41 yards (74.1 passer rating).

Graham Harrell was released on Saturday, and his performance on Friday night was likely the final nail in his Green Bay coffin. Harrell continued to digress with his accuracy, sailing a pass over James Jones' head, and overthrowing multiple other routes in the process. Harrell's last play as a Green Bay Packer was a two-yard out route to D.J. Williams on third and 18. A fitting ending to an unspectacular back-up career. Harrell finished six for 13 for 49 yards (56.2 passer rating).

Vince Young won himself a back-up job with his performance on Friday night, and proved he still has the ability to make plays. He might not be as fast as he was at the University of Texas, but Young simply makes plays. He showcased his ability to scramble when a play breaks down by leading the team in rushing with 39 yards on three carries. Young also showed the awareness to throw the ball to a receiver who was near the first down marker, when he hit Alex Gillett for a key first down on the touchdown drive in the third quarter. Young now has the ability to take all the second-team snaps, and develop a comfort level with the Packers playbook. He won't have to worry about challenging for a starting job, but if disaster were to strike, I feel much more comfortable with Young leading the team than Graham Harrell. Young finished six for seven for 41 yards and one touchdown (130.7 passer rating).

B.J. Coleman finished two for seven for eight yards (39.6 passer rating). Coleman wasn't exactly working with a great offensive line group, but should have compensated for that, but getting the ball out quicker. Mike McCarthy has made it known he wants Coleman to play faster, and get the ball out quicker, and I didn't see either from Coleman on Friday. I wouldn't assume Coleman gets a spot on the practice squad, his job is still very much in the air. If he doesn't have a good showing against the Chiefs in the preseason finale, he may be on his way out of Green Bay as well.

Running Back: C+

The Packers were unable to establish a running attack on Friday, and while most of the blame can be placed on the offensive line's poor performance, there were a few plays that the running backs missed as well.

DuJuan Harris missed two cutback lanes on the Packers opening drive of the game. On the first one, David Bahktiari created a nice lane by blocking his man away from the play, but Harris hesitated and then ran to the opposite side. The other play was on a delay draw on the same drive. Harris had plenty of room to the outside after both tackles pushed their defenders up the field, but Harris ran right into traffic for a short gain. Harris finished with two yards on three carries, but also had an 11-yard gain on a screen pass. Harris is a playmaker, but missed a couple of opportunities on Friday. Hopefully he will be able to return from his knee injury quickly, and provide a one-two punch with Eddie Lacy.

Speaking of Lacy, the rookie running back was unable to get anything going. His only splash play of the game was called back on a David Bahktiari holding penalty. I'm convinced Lacy would have performed better had he been running with the first-team offense, because the Seahawks loaded the box on the Packers when Graham Harrell was at quarterback. Lacy finished with -5 yards on eight carries.

Alex Green made the most of his limited opportunities, with a 31-yard run in the fourth quarter. Green finished with 31 yards on two carries. James Starks appears to be on the chopping block, as he did not receive a single carry on Friday, and didn't even enter the game until the Packers final drive.

Wide Receiver: B-

Jarrett Boykin (two receptions, 22 yards) and James Jones (two receptions, 11 yards) were the only receivers to tally double-digit receiving yards on Friday, and while the quarterback play wasn't spectacular, none of the younger wideouts really separated themselves. Boykin is clearly the fourth option, and Jeremy Ross didn't record a drop, but preseason sensation Tyrone Walker didn't even record a target (and had one missed tackle on special teams).

Alex Gillett was cut on Saturday, and one has to believe there will be more on the way. I would be surprised if the Packers kept six wideouts this year, especially with the bevy of talent at the tight end position. If Tyrone Walker has a big game against the Chiefs, he could have a shot at making the team, and Johnson and Dorsey could be practice squad bodies.

Tight End: B

Jermichael Finley continues to make plays this preseason, and is showing signs of becoming a reliable run blocker as well. Finley finished with two receptions for 28 yards. D.J. Williams added three receptions for 19 yards, while Andrew Quarless made his preseason debut with a 16-yard reception from Vince Young on a designed roll-out play.

The only reason the tight ends didn't get a better grade was due to Jake Stoneburner's fumble on a potential game-tying touchdown reception. Stoneburner is competing for a practice squad spot at this point in time, and he didn't help his chances on Friday. Brandon Bostick did not record a reception, but was targeted twice.

Offensive Line: C

The offensive line had a tough assignment on Friday, and failed to establish many running lanes. The pass protection was solid, with no sacks recorded until B.J. Coleman and the third-stringers were in the game. The starting offensive line finished with respectable grades according to ProFootballFocus.com:

David Bahktiari (0.3 overall, +1.1 pass block, -1.0 run block)

Josh Sitton (0.5 overall, 0.9 pass block, -0.5 run block)

Evan Dietrich-Smith (-0.7 overall, 0.1 pass block, -0.9 run block)

T.J. Lang (-2.0 overall, -1.1 pass block, -0.5 run block)

Don Barclay (0.3 overall, 1.6 pass block, -1.5 run block)

It's obvious the run blocking needs to be better, but I thought the two young tackles held their own. The second-string line was exposed on numerous plays in the second half. Greg Van Roten, Marshall Newhouse, Patrick Lewis, and Lane Taylor were getting pushed backwards too much.

Defensive Line: A

The defensive line was the biggest highlight of Friday night's game, as the Packers were able to provide a consistent pass rush against a mobile quarterback. B.J. Raji blew up a running play on the Seahawks first drive, C.J. Wilson and Johnny Jolly were also stout against the run, and Mike Daniels and Mike Neal both recorded solid performances.

Jordan Miller recorded two tackles, including one sack, while Josh Boyd also added a tackle. If the defensive line can be that effective with a pass rush,

Linebackers: B+

Nick Perry made some noise on Friday, and showed glimpses of being the playmaker at outside linebacker that Don Capers was hoping for. Perry's tipped pass resulted in a Casey Hayward interception, and added three solo tackles for good measure. The linebacking core recorded three of the Packers four sacks on Friday with Clay Matthews, Nate Palmer, and Brad Jones all getting in the mix.

Terrell Manning added four tackles, while A.J. Hawk and Sam Barrington each added two. The only thing keeping the linebackers from an A grade was the poor tackling shown by Dezman Moses and Jamari Lattimore. Moses took a terrible angle on the Seahawks first touchdown of the game, and Lattimore showed poor effort on a few plays that resulted in first-down runs.

Cornerbacks: B-

Casey Hayward's interception may have been an easy play off a tipped pass, but Hayward just seems to have a nose for the ball. In his first game back, Hayward also added one solo tackle and above-average pass coverage (1.7 rating from PFF).

Loyce Means had a rough day, drawing two penalties in a row on punt coverage, and getting beat for touchdown pass that should been an interception. Means has potential to be a physical, bump-and-run corner, but lacks the awareness and ball skills to translate that into action.

Micah Hyde was again solid in run support, and is one of the best tacklers on the team, but he continues to get beat in pass coverage. I'm not sure if a move to safety would solve any problems, but Hyde has the potential to be a playmaker on the Packers defense if he can shore that area up.

Brandon Smith recorded three tackles and one pass break-up, while Davon House recorded two tackles and one pass break-up.

Safeties: B+

Jerron McMillian's interception was a sign of the young player's progession. Russell Wilson tried to force a pass into double coverage, and McMillian showed enough awareness to jump the route, and make a play on the ball.

Chris Banjo continues to make a strong case for himself, registering five tackles on Friday. M.D. Jennings and Morgan Burnett each added three tackles.

The lone lowlight was Chaz Powell, who recorded a -1.4 rating overall, with -0.5 against the run, and -0.9 against the pass).

Kickers: B+

Crosby made the only field goal attempt on the night (a 38-yard attempt), and had impressive kickoffs as well. Giorgio Tavecchio was not as impressive in his kickoff, barely reaching the 10-yard line.

The signing of Zach Ramirez could signal the end of Tavecchio's time in Green Bay, and unless Ramirez doesn't miss a kick from now until next week, the job appears to be Mason Crosby's.

Punter: A

Tim Masthay is earning his money this preseason. Mashtay added five more punts to his numbers, recording a 55.6 yard average and a long of 61 yards.

The third preseason game always makes or breaks a few players. Such was the case for several on the Packers' roster.

Individual performances weigh a little heavier this week with the cutdown to 75 mere days away. Some cuts have already been made, while news about the others should trickle in over the next few days. As for now, here are the winners and losers from the third preseason game.

Winners

Nick Perry

Prior to the Seahawks game, Nick Perry's play would have been characterized as steady if unspectacular. That changed after Perry tipped a Russell Wilson pass to Casey Hayward for an interception (more on that later). He also had two other big tackles, each nearly a tackle for loss. Perry is an integral to the Packers producing an effective pass rush. He doesn't have to be an All-Pro or even a Pro Bowler. All the team needs from him is to keep the opposing team from doubling and tripling Clay Matthews in pass protection.

Vince Young

In a vacuum, Vince Young's game probably wouldn't qualify as "spectacular." Early during his first drive, he threw what should have been an interception. Later on, he misfielded a shotgun snap, pinning the Packers at their own five yard line. Yet Young was arguably the ultimate winner Friday night as he not only led the offense to its only touchdown of the night, but he also won the backup quarterback job. That's all the more impressive considering he only joined the team on August 5. Young still doesn't have a full grasp of the Packers' playbook, but he now has the rest of the season to figure it out.

Mike Daniels

If there was any thought that Mike Daniels wasn't going to be a part of the 2013 Packers, that door was slammed shut after his performance against the Seahawks. Seattle running backs had no luck running at him. Likewise, the Seahawks' offensive line couldn't keep him out of the backfield. Daniels' night would have been even better had his sack and forced fumble of Brady Quinn not been wiped out by an offsides penalty on Datone Jones. Either way, Daniels looks to be a better player in 2013 than he was as a rookie.

Brad Jones

Brad Jones gets knocked for not being a flashy player. While that's hardly a smart standard for success (especially for 3-4 inside linebackers), Jones demonstrated that he is indeed capable of that kind of play. In addition to several tackles around the line of scrimmage, Jones penetrated the inside of Seattle's offensive line for a 9 yard sack. The only negative of his night was that a hamstring injury that forced him to leave the game. Unless it turns out to be serious, Friday was a great night for Jones.

Casey Hayward

Like Jones, Hayward had an effective albeit abbreviated appearance against the Seahawks. As mentioned earlier, Hayward snatched a deflected pass for an interception, his first of the preseason. While it's never quite satisfying to just say a player has a nose for the football, there's no other way to describe Hayward. Hopefully he didn't re-aggravate his hamstring injury too badly as the Packers will be depending on him come the regular season.

Honorable Mentions

Jerron McMillian
Clay Matthews
Chris Banjo
C.J. Wilson
Johnny Jolly

Losers

Graham Harrell

Graham Harrell was already destined for the "Losers" list before the Packers decided to part ways with him Saturday afternoon. After three years in their system, Mike McCarthy and the coaching staff could no longer ignore the lack of development Harrell exhibited. It's a disappointment, as at one point Harrell did seem to possess the characteristics of McCarthy's next quarterback success. Instead, he might only be remembered for fumbling his first NFL snap.

James Starks

James Starks didn't have a single bad play Friday for anyone to point to. Unfortunately, that's because Starks never entered the game. After being one of the early bright spots of training camp, the beleaguered running back is all but officially a former member of the Green Bay Packers. While Ted Thompson will shop Starks around in the coming days, he's unlikely to find a trade partner. At that point, Starks will receive his release from the team.

Loyce Means

Nobody was expecting Loyce Means to make the Packers' final roster or even the practice squad. However, a strong showing in the preseason could have earned the former-CFLer a chance to sign with another NFL team. Those prospects took a hit after Means drew two consecutive penalties near the end of the first half and was beaten multiple times by the Seattle backups. For all his physical gifts, Means does not have the instincts to handle cornerback at the NFL level, at least not right now.

Greg Van Roten

After David Bakhtiari, Greg Van Roten had perhaps the most promising performance in the Packers' preseason game against the Cardinals. Van Roten followed that up with a mixed showing in St. Louis. He bottomed out Friday, being badly beaten several times by Tony McDaniel and Clinton McDonald. While he was hardly the only Packers' offensive lineman to struggle in the run game, Van Roten's performance stood out as the worst. Because of his ability to play center, Van Roten is still likely to make the 53-man roster. However, he's no longer the lock he appeared to be a week ago.

Jake Stoneburner

You know as a player that if the only playing time you receive in the third preseason game comes in the fourth quarter, a single mistake can sink your chances of making the team. Such a mistake - a fumble near the goal line - may have been Jake Stoneburner's undoing. With Jermichael Finley, Matthew Mulligan, D.J. Williams, Andrew Quarless, and Brandon Bostick all ahead of him, Stoneburner's only chance of sticking in Green Bay was to make the practice squad. That possibility is in question after Friday night.

Dishonorable Mentions

There was an indescribable feel in the air last night as the 'fail mary' play loomed over the preseason showdown between the Seahawks and Packers.

In a recent study done by Emory University, the Green Bay Packers' fan base ranked No. 14 in most loyal fan bases in the NFL. While it is just one study, it is the lowest the Packers' fans have been on a list like this in recent memory. The Packers ranked behind their rivals Chicago Bears (No. 7) and Dallas Cowboys (No. 1) and were also ranked behind teams such as: the Tennessee Titans and San Diego Chargers.

You would've never guessed based on the atmosphere at Lambeau Field last night that this was the NFL's 14th best fan base.

I arrived at my seats at about 6:30 CT and the stands were already about 90 percent full. The Packers were warming up going through their normal pre-game stretches before they re-entered the locker room for introductions. The Seahawks were also on the field doing their pre-game stretches, however, they were being met by loud, thunderous boos from the Lambeau faithful.

I'm not sure about other NFL stadiums, but in Green Bay, Packers' fans will always pack the stadium regardless of the game, last night was no different. Although it was just a preseason game, Lambeau packed 75,000 people into stands for the chance to tell Seattle how they felt about the way their last matchup ended.

With the Packers and Seahawks two of the favorites to win the NFC, the game had a big fight feel to it. Fans were noticeably louder than I've ever heard at a preseason game. Late in the second quarter Golden Tate, who of course "caught" the final pass in the Seahawks 14-12 win over Green Bay last year, went back for a punt return and wasn't greeted so kindly. At one point I turned to my sister, who was sitting right next to me, to tell her something, however, we couldn't even hear each others' voices.

Tate seemed to be liking the boos, bobbing his head up and down and waving his arms.

Another thing that caught my eye was how physical the game was. After almost every play players were pushing and talking trash, which Lambeau much appreciated. There has been a change in mindset for the Packers thus far in the preseason — they've been louder, more physical and tougher than a season ago. It was obvious the Packers were trying to send a message to the Seahawks last night.

One final thing I noticed from Lambeau field last night was how much the new South end zone holds in the noise. I've been to the 2008 NFC Championship against the New York Giants, Brett Favre's return to Lambeau with the Minnesota Vikings and last year on Thursday night football when the Packers hosted the Chicago Bears, and it has never been louder in Lambeau than it was last night. The South end zone holds in the all the noise, much like in Seattle at CenturyLink Field with their overhangs in both end zones.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was noticeably rattled by the noise at some points during his playing time. After Clay Matthews sacked Wilson to bring up a third and long, Lambeau was so loud the Seahawks had to call a timeout,. Although they picked up the first down, they were forced to burn a potentially precious timeout.

All in all, Friday night's game was one of the loudest Packer games I've ever been to and it was only preseason. Lambeau has been an advantage for the Packers since it was built in 1957 and it will continue to be a tough place for NFL teams to visit, especially with the new additions.

Not all the Packers played well in this "revenge" game against the Seahawks, but there were several positive developments for the team to consider heading into the first roster cutdown.

For most teams, the third preseason game is the final dress rehearsal for the regular season. Starters play until halftime and sometimes longer, coordinators show a few more wrinkles in their play calling, and players on the fringe of the roster make their final pitches to remain on the roster.

But the Packers aren't most teams.

Aaron Rodgers lasted only one drive Friday night as Mike McCarthy smartly decided that there was little to gain by further exposing his starting quarterback. The rest of the number ones stayed in the game to give the coaching staff an extended look at the backup quarterbacks. Overall, it was a mixed bag.

In case you've somehow forgotten, the Seahawks were the Packers opponent in the infamous "Fail Mary" game. The fans at Lambeau haven't, as evidenced by the wave of boos that poured in following every appearance of Seattle wide receiver Golden Tate. Likewise, both teams were chippy throughout the game, and it affected the composure of several players.

Starters

As in the previous two preseason games, the starting offense looked potent yet failed to punch the ball in the end zone. In his only series, Rodgers drove the Packers down the field for a field goal. While his passing numbers won't stand out (4-7 for 41 yards), Rodgers looks ready for the regular season.

Rookie left tackle David Bakhtiari had a mixed performance. While the holding penalty he was called for on the Packers' second drive was questionable, the refs let him get away with one a drive earlier. Those plays aside, Bakhtiari's pass protection was once again solid, a fortunate sign for the Packers.

Tonight's game saw the return of DuJuan Harris, who opened as the team's starting back. Harris had little room to run, as the offensive line struggled all night to open holes and establish the ground game. After a short catch and run on Green Bay's second drive, Harris suffered an apparent leg injury and never returned. According to sideline reports, he re-aggravated the knee injury that kept him out of training camp until last week.

Nick Perry made his first splash play of the preseason by tipping a Russell Wilson pass to Casey Hayward for an interception. Perry provided consistent pressure while on the field, a positive sign for the Packers' pass rush heading into the season. His partner in crime, Clay Matthews, also had an impressive showing. Matthews badly beat running back Robert Turbin for a 12 yard sack on Seattle's opening drive. For all the flaws Dom Capers defense may have, an effective pass rush doesn't appear to be one of them.

Backups

Despite receiving his first extended playing time with the starting offense since last season, Graham Harrell irrefutably failed the audition. Not only did he finish the game six for 13 for 49 yards, but he threw several ill-advised passes that were either batted down by a lineman or deflected by the defensive back. After three years in the system, the Packers can no longer justify Harrell's continued employment.

The backup quarterback situation wasn't all gloom and doom, though. Vince Young cobbled together a pair of long scrambles and some short passing, ultimately culminating in the Packers' only touchdown. Young still lags behind the other passers in terms of understanding the offense. Yet the fact remains that after only two and a half weeks, Young's performance has exceeded that of Harrell and B.J. Coleman.

Jerron McMillian, technically a backup tonight as M.D. Jennings was given the start, intercepted his first pass of the preseason. While it was his only splash play, McMillian performed steadily in both coverage and run support. The Packers aren't going to decide the starting safety until the regular season, but with a game like this McMillian might have crept into the lead.

Reserves

We haven't heard much of Loyce Means this preseason. He's been stuck behind Davon House, Micah Hyde, Brandon Smith, and James Nixon, but Friday he stood out for all the wrong reasons. On consecutive plays, Means drew penalties that effectively ended the first half. Later in the game, Means drew yet another penalty for a Seattle first down. With the cutdown to 75 coming this Tuesday, it's safe to say Means' tenure in Green Bay is over.

B.J. Coleman's performance had more in common with his first preseason game than his second. He attempted almost as many passes as he had yards. While part of that falls on the receivers, it's probably time to wonder if Coleman still has a place on the practice squad waiting for him.

Jake Stoneburner probably didn't have much of a chance to make the Packers' 53 this year, but he occasionally looked like an NFL player who at least deserved a spot on the practice squad. That may still happen, but his fumble near the end of the fourth quarter is going to linger in the minds of the coaching staff and front office. While he's had as many successes as failures in the preseason, there are other talented tight ends (Brandon Bostick) who could be stashed on the practice squad this season.

Game Balls

Offense: Vince Young

Despite his inexperience in the Packers' offense, Young looked capable of keeping the Packers in a game or two if Rodgers were to go down for a short period. His mobility is still intact, and he'll usually make the right short to medium passes.

Defense: Nick Perry

While Nick Perry has been steady through training camp and the first two preseason games, he demonstrated a heightened level of play Saturday. He'll never equal Clay Matthews, but if he continues to bring pressure from the left side, it's going to be harder and harder for opposing teams to key on just one player.

Special Teams: Tim Masthay

Masthay punted three times at the end of the first half and each one was a beauty. So too was his takedown of Golden Tate.

The Seahawks and Packers continue to battle on the gridiron on national television. Keep up with fellow Packers fans' discussions of the game here!

The third preseason game of the year for the Green Bay Packers is underway as they are locked in a battle with the Seattle Seahawks. With the second half starting soon, keep an eye out for the backups to start contributing heavily to continue making names for themselves in real football action. A few key players to keep an eye on will be the team's backup quarterbacks (of course), and the seventh-round rookie wide receivers Charles Johnson and Kevin Dorsey.

As always, please welcome any visitors with respect and let's continue to conduct ourselves with class. Thanks, and enjoy the second half!

Join us to discuss the Packers' third preseason game of 2013.

About 11 months ago, the NFL's replacement refs finally decided a football game on national television rather than leaving it entirely up to the players on the field. That game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks paved the way for a reconciliation between the league and its normal refs. Of course, we Packers fans feel that we ended up on the wrong side of that game, and many of us have been putting up a stink about it ever since.

Enough is enough.

It's now the 2013 season, and that game (and that call) should be a distant memory at this point. The only things that matter tonight are the tests that the 2013 Seahawks will give this year's Packers squad. We'll likely see a first half with starters playing on both sides, and as such we should get a good, long look at Aaron Rodgers and company up against a fast, physical defense.

In other words, forget about it, and we expect that complaining and whining about last year's game will not be present in tonight's game threads.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's all enjoy tonight's game, in which we'll hopefully see a great game with hopefully a lot of scoring from the Packers' first-team offense and some excellent performances from the reserves. Remember to check our our game previews below and remember to check out the broadcast information post in case you're wondering how you can tune in for tonight's game.

Check out the inactive players for both teams here, thanks to CologneCrocodile in the comments. In a bit of a surprise, Packers DE Datone Jones is active tonight.

The football ties between the Packers and Seahawks run deeper than many people realize.

"We want the ball and we're gonna score."

This is what then-Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck told the referees on a cold December night at Lambeau Field, right before overtime play got underway in the 2003 Wild Card matchup. It was a bit of a high-scoring affair as regulation ended with both teams knotted up, 27-27.

For a second, he had me. I thought it could happen. Hasselbeck sounded confident. I lacked faith.

In the end, confidence wasn't enough for the Seahawks as they looked to move on to the Divisional round. Following the infamous coin-flip callout, each team went 3-and-out before it happened. Hasselbeck calmly stepped into the huddle, took the snap, dropped back with his eyes locked looking left and threw a dart, right into the waiting hands of Al Harris who took it back to the house for a 52-yard touchdown to end the game.

Moments like that made this rivalry special.

When you take the time to think about it, there has been something special about the Packers - Seahawks rivalry for a long time now. It is definitely one of the more subtle rivalries in the NFL. From the 2003 and 2007 playoff matchups to last season's "Fail Mary" game, there has always been some kind of plot or storyline that tied these two franchises together and made for the occasional epic game. Let's take a quick look at some of those ties as we head into Friday's dress rehearsal game.

MATT HASSELBECK

Matt Hasselbeck began his NFL career as a Packer in 1999. He was a sixth-round pick by Ron Wolf and was one of the many unused backups during the Brett Favre era. He was traded to Seattle on March 2, 2001 and eventually earned his spot as the starting quarterback. Throughout his career, Hasselbeck went on to break a number of Seahawk passing records. In addition to that, he helped Seattle reach the playoffs six times and they appeared in one Super Bowl.

AHMAN GREEN

Ahman Green is the Green Bay Packers' all-time leading rusher with 8,322 rushing yards. As a Packer, Green and Brett Favre tore it up. To this day, the duo arguably remains the franchise's last great running back/quarterback tandem. Green gave the Packers a real ground attack - something that hasn't been seen much since he stopped being the team's featured back. Just opposite of Hasselbeck, Green was traded to the Packers from the Seattle Seahawks in 2000 in exchange for cornerback Fred Vinson.

MIKE HOLMGREN

The 90's ended up being a very fun time for a lot of sports fans, mainly because there were so many great things that came of that decade. Things like the *home *run *race between *Sammy Sosa and *Mark McGwire to Michael Jordan's great runs with the Chicago Bulls. Good music and a lot of other great things came of that 90's era.

If you were to put the words "90's" and "Packers" in the same sentence, three things would come to my mind: Brett Favre, Reggie White and Coach Mike Holmgren. Holmgren and his beloved mustache roamed the Packer sideline every week from 1992-98. In 1996, Holmgren led the Packers to a Super Bowl victory and that still remains one of my all-time favorite memories after all these years. Now he even has his own street in Green Bay, Holmgren Way.

Holmgren left Green Bay to coach in Seattle and add the title of General Manager. The Seahawks went from being consistently mediocre to becoming a frequent playoff threat for the better part of his coaching tenure there. UNRELATED FUN FACT: Holmgren was the quarterback at USC from 1966-69. Imagine...

TED THOMPSON

The Packers' own General Manager, "Trader" Ted Thompson, has been busy building a future for the Packers since 2005. He has almost seamlessly ushered this franchise into a new era that as already produced one championship. His decisions weren't always the most popular but he has proven himself as trustworthy - perhaps even earning the nickname "Trustworthy" Ted, in recent years.

Thompson also has Seattle ties. From 2000-2004, he served as the VP of Football Operations for the 'Hawks and played a big role in the turnaround of that franchise as well.

JOHN SCHNEIDER (Seahawks General Manager)

Schneider was brought on to the Seahawks as the General Manager in 2010 after spending the past seven years with the Packers as the Director of Football Operations. He grew up in the state of Wisconsin and began his career with the Packers as a scout in 1993. Interestingly enough, he got his first job by writing a letter to the then-Packers GM Ron Wolf, who gave him a summer internship during his junior year of college. From there, Schneider's executive career was about to take off. In 2012, he won the NFL's Executive of the Year award.

HONORABLE MENTION: RUSSELL WILSON

I understand that this isn't really a Packers connection but the Wisconsin connection is there. There are a lot of Packer fans who double as Badger fans. Wilson played one very good season with the Wisconsin Badgers before going pro. (EDITOR'S NOTE: No, it wasn't just very good. It was like a wet dream for Badger fans.) He led the Badgers to the Rose Bowl and was the one who threw the legendary "Fail Mary" against the Packers last season. He is now tied to the Packers forever.

There are a lot of connections between these two franchises that aren't even mentioned here. As I said before, this is one of the more subtle rivalries in the NFL. While it is just the preseason, we can expect to see one good half of football from the starters this week. A lot of connections between the two franchises, but no love will be lost here. You should expect to see a good one tomorrow.
