We take a look at the results of this weekend's NFL Scouting Combine and determine which tight ends helped or hurt their draft stock.

At this past weekend's NFL Scouting Combine, one of the focal points for Ted Thompson and the Green Bay Packers was the tight end position.

Led by North Carolina's Eric Ebron, the 2014 tight end class is believed to be one of the best in years. The top of the group is composed primarily by underclassmen, with Iowa's C.J. Fiedorowicz being the lone exception.

Depending on how the next two weeks go, tight end could either be a non-issue for the Packers or their biggest need on offense. While Jermichael Finley hasn't received medical clearance from team doctor Pat McKenzie, the feeling around the league is the tight end will play again. Accordingly, head coach Mike McCarthy refuses to rule out a return.

"Pat [McKenzie] doesn't feel the same way about Jermichael as he felt about Nick [Collins]. So I'm very open and optimistic about Jermichael coming back. I think the specifics of their injuries are different."

Still, unless and until a new deal is signed with Finley, Thompson and the front office will approach the draft as though they need a tight end.

Stock Up

Eric Ebron - North Carolina

Entering the combine, most draft pundits labeled Eric Ebron the top tight end in the draft. To solidify that standing, Ebron needed a strong performance at the combine. He didn't disappoint. Ebron measured in at 6-4, 250 with 10" hands while running the second fastest 40 time (4.60 seconds) among tight ends. His size and athleticism compares favorably to 49ers tight end Vernon Davis.

C.J. Fiedorowicz - Iowa

The elder statesman of the group, C.J. Fiedorowicz was viewed as the most well rounded tight end of the class albeit not a deep threat. The Polish Hat may have changed that perception somewhat, running the 6th best time (4.76) for a tight end. While that's faster than expected, any team adding Fiedorowicz is doing so for his blocking and ability as a red zone target. On those fronts, the Iowa product had the 5th highest rep total in the bench press (25) and the best three-cone performance (7.10 seconds) at his position.

Jace Amaro - Texas Tech

Calling Amaro a tight end is a bit of stretch. He played almost exclusively in the slot at Texas Tech, only lining up in line in some goal line packages. However, he looks like a tight end at 6-5 and 265 pounds, making him one of the bigger such players in the draft. That makes Amaro's 40 time (4.74) all the more impressive.

Stock Down

Austin Seferian-Jenkins - Washington

The bad break for Austin Seferian-Jenkins wasn't a poor showing in the drills, it was one in his foot. During the medical check portion of the combine, doctors discovered a pre-existing condition in the Washington product's left foot. This prevented Seferian-Jenkins from participating in any of the workouts save for the bench press (20 reps).

Colt Lyerla - Oregon

The wildcard in the class is former-Oregon Duck Colt Lyerla, an athletic but troubled player kicked off his college team and already on his second agent. Much like the NFL's perception of him, Lyerla had a mixed performance at the combine. He ran one of the faster 40 times for a tight end (4.61 seconds), but also benched a position-low 15 reps while making waves for his conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook shooting. Ultimately, Lyerla's negatives outweigh his positives. With Aaron Hernandez persisting as a black eye for the league, most teams will remove Lyerla from their draft boards if they haven't already.

We take a look at the results of this weekend's Scouting Combine and hand out awards to the winners and losers at the linebacker position.

While it's never prudent to draft a player solely based on one fitness test, there are advantages to performing well in front of NFL scouts and at least getting your name on a team's radar. An unknown running back or wide receiver who runs a 4.3 forty-yard dash would likely get a training camp invite or a defensive lineman who benches 225 pounds 45 times can go from a late-round pick to an early-round reach.

On the flip slide, there is more potential for an apparent first-round pick to lose value than there is for them to gain value at the world's most publicly scrutinized fitness test. The Packers seem likely to spend the majority of their draft picks on defensive players after another sub-par season on that side of the ball.

One unit of interest is the linebacker corps. The Packers can ill afford another injury-plagued season with undrafted free agents playing meaningful playing time late in the season. I expect the Packers to draft at least one inside linebacker and possibly sign a free agent as well. It's quite possible that an undrafted free agent from this year's draft class could be training camp invite as well, so an above-average test result could vault someone onto the Packers draft board.

With that in mind, Let's take a look at the winners and losers from this year's combine testing at the linebacker position, with special emphasis on the inside linebacker candidates.

Winners

Ryan Shazier (Ohio State)

Shazier didn't participate in the 40-yard dash, but put up impressive numbers in the bench press (25 reps) and vertical leap (42 inches). He also added solid numbers in the 3-cone drill (6.91 seconds) and 20-yard shuttle (4.21 seconds). Shazier isn't the biggest linebacker in the group at 6-foot-1 and 237 pounds, but he is clearly one of the most athletic prospects at a position that lacks athleticism on the Packers roster.

Prince Shembo (Notre Dame)

Shembo put up impressive numbers - 26 bench press reps, a 4.71-second 40-yard dash, and a 38.5-inch vertical leap - and those are very solid when you consider his size (253 pounds). Shembo reportedly looked impressive in position drills, and made himself an option for teams who doubted his ability to play inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.

Jordan Tripp (Montana)

Tripp is a relatively unknown talent out of Montana, but may have put himself on many team's radars with his combine performance. He was measured in at 6-foot-3 and 234 pounds, ran a 4.67 40, recorded 22 reps on the bench press, a 37.5 vertical leap, 6.89-second 3-cone drill, and the fastest 20-yard shuttle time of 3.96 seconds.

Losers

Yawin Smallwood (Connecticut)

Smallwood was considered by many scouts to be one of the top 5 inside linebacker prospects heading into the combine, but didn't help his chances with his test results. Smallwood only recorded 18 reps on the bench press, ran the 40 in 5.01 seconds, and didn't participate in the 3-cone or 20-yard shuttle drills.

C.J. Mosley (Alabama)

Mosley didn't run a forty-yard dash or rep at the bench press, and didn't exactly show soft hands in position drills on Tuesday. His vertical leap (35 inches), 3-cone drill (7.3), and 20-yard shuffle (4.4) weren't earth-shattering either. While Mosley's testing results might put him in the loser category, it may make the Packers winners if it drops him into the 20s. Could a talented rookie contributor from Alabama fall into the laps of the Packers two years in a row?

Shayne Skov (Stanford)

Skov didn't participate in any testing, and that could end up raising more questions than answers. The former-Stanford linebacker didn't hurt his value by not testing, but did miss out on an opportunity. He could have used a solid forty-time and 3-cone drill to put his past knee injury worries to rest. Much like Mosley, his loss could be the Packers' gain on draft day.

We wrap up the final day of the Combine with the defensive backs performing on-field drills.

Today, the players in the back four of defenses take the field at the NFL's 2014 Scouting Combine in Indianapolis to wrap up the final day of the event. The players in the secondary are classified in two groups: Defensive Backs and Safeties, and will be rotating through the various drills today.

The cornerback group is deep this year, led by a handful of big names like Darqueze Dennard from Michigan State, Justin Gilbert of Oklahoma State, and Virginia Tech's Kyle Fuller. They could all be first round picks in 2014, and all three ran their 40-yard dashes this morning.

Here are the full results for the defensive backs.

Defensive Backs

Also working today are the safeties, led by Calvin Pryor of Louisville and Alabama's Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix. Another top safety, Jimmie Ward of Northern Illinois, is out of today's drills with an injury. While it is not perceived to be as deep a safety group as the players in the 2013 draft, there is still some top-level talent at the position and drills will be closely scrutinized by Ted Thompson and company.

Safeties

The players on the front seven of the defense take the field on Monday to run their drills at the Scouting Combine.

The first batch of defensive players are taking the field for drills today in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine. Leading the way on the line is South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who might end up as the top overall pick in this year's draft. For linebackers, UCLA's Anthony Barr and Buffalo's Khalil Mack are likely to be among the top players chosen at the position.

Early on, Clowney put up an unofficial 4.47 time in the 40-yard dash, which is ridiculous for a 266-pound man. Not far behind him was Pittsburgh tackle Aaron Donald, who ran unofficially in 4.65 seconds despite standing 6'1 and weighing 285 pounds. Clowney is reported to have a hip flexor issue, though, which may hold him out of the agility drills.

Defensive Linemen

Also testing today are the linebackers. Inside linebackers C.J. Mosley and Chris Borland will be looking to improve their draft stock with good performances today.

Here's all you need to know about Sunday's workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Position Groups: Defensive Linemen, Linebackers

Potential Packers Targets: Dee Ford, Jackson Jeffcoat, C.J Mosley, Trent Murphy, Louis Nix

Overview: While the first few days of the NFL Combine featured position groups of lesser importance to the Packers, Monday begins the real heart of combine scouting for Ted Thompson's crew.

If last year's performance established anything, it's how undermanned the middle of Green Bay's defense has become. The safety play was among the poorest in the league, with the inside linebackers not far behind. The Packers seem likely to address both positions somewhere in the draft. Additionally, if B.J. Raji is allowed to depart in free agency, a replacement nose tackle would become a high priority.

While he's unlikely to remain on the board long enough for the Packers, Alabama's C.J. Mosley would add speed and playmaking to a unit that hasn't seem much of either since Desmond Bishop's hamstring tear in the 2012 preseason. At nose tackle, Notre Dame's Louis Nix is a possibility. As with most players at the position, Nix has struggled to control his weight, though he's down to the 330s after playing well above that in college.

But the Packers could also look address their pass rush. After strong showings in the National Championship Game and Senior Bowl, Dee Ford looks like a viable option in the late-first or second round. While he would be making the transition from defensive end, Ford's quickness and size (6-2, 252) suggests a smoother conversion than former first rounder Nick Perry. Likewise, Texas' Jackson Jeffcoat could be another candidate to move from a three-point stance to linebacker.

The star power hits the field at the combine on Sunday as the receivers, running backs, and quarterbacks go through their on-field drills.

Sunday, February 23rd marks the second day of major on-field testing at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine. Today, three position groups take the field in a range of tests. Those groups are the glamorous offensive positions - the quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers.

A number of quarterbacks have stated that they will not throw in passing drills today, instead preferring to wait until their own Pro Days, where they will be throwing in more familiar surroundings and to more familiar receivers. Among them are Teddy Bridgewater and Johnny Manziel, two of the top players at the position.

As for the running backs and receivers, their speed and agility times will be closely scrutinized. Some of the players expected to post blazing speeds in the 40-yard dash include Clemson's Sammy Watkins, Oregon's De'Anthony Thomas, and Colorado's Paul Richardson.

Keep up with our tracker here, as the results from today's drills roll in.

Here's all you need to know about Sunday's workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Position Groups: Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Wide Receivers

Potential Packers Targets: Kapri Bibbs, David Fales, Robert Herron, Tom Savage, Jordan Matthews

Overview: In all likelihood, the Packers won't have much interest in the top tier quarterbacks or running backs. With Aaron Rodgers locked up through the 2019 season, their only concern is his primary backup. That could be Matt Flynn or Scott Tolzien, but it could also be Pittsburgh's Tom Savage or David Fales (who the Packers have met with at the combine). Similarly, there is no immediate need to acquire a tailback with Eddie Lacy on the roster. That said, Green Bay could potentially lose James Starks and John Kuhn this offseason, so a mid-to-late round running back is a possibility. In that range, the Packers could take uber-productive Colorado State tailback Kapri Bibbs.

The position group working out on Sunday expected to garner the most attention from Green Bay's personnel department is wide receiver. None of the Packers' top three receivers are under contract past the 2014 season, and Ted Thomson's history suggests that he'll draft a wideout now rather than after his current receivers have departed.

As has been discussed on this site, Vanderbilt's Jordan Matthews is the most likely candidate should Green Bay elect to use a first or second round pick at the position. He fits the profile of a Packers wide receiver, and he has plenty of connections with Green Bay's front office. Another possibility is Wyoming's Robert Herron. At 5-9, he's a more diminutive receiver, but his speed (potentially the best in the draft) and versatility (returns kicks and punts, can line up at tailback) will draw comparisons to Randall Cobb.
